long days and pleasant nights...

when you were lying on my bed
naked and warm from your bath
relaxed now
because I had massaged your neck and shoulders
lying quietly
your head in my hands
it struck me
how fortunate we are
fortunate to have one another
fortunate to have the relationship that we do
to care so much for one another
without any pressing need for it to become more than it is
without any desire to make our relationship conform to something more socially acceptable
this thing we have defies explanation and certainly is difficult to define
but I am grateful for it
for you
because you give me something that I just don't get from anyone else
enough to satisfy deeply and then illicit a longing for just a tiny bit more
